BIO COMPLEXION MAKEUP FAQs
It’s ideal when the complexion makeup you like to wear comes in such a wide range of colors—there’s a much higher chance of finding the perfect color match for your skin tone. However, ensuring you select the right shade that offers seamless blending and coverage for your unique complexion is its own art form (because let’s be honest: there is nothing worse than buying a product, only to open it at home and discover it’s too light or too dark). Here are a few tips for choosing the best shade match for your skin:
- Begin with the basics. Would you say your skin tone is fair, light, medium, medium-dark, dark, or deep? We categorize our shade ranges into these general skin tone categories to give you a starting point for selection. It’s best to make this determination before a day in the sun, a windy hike, or other weather conditions that can affect the appearance of your complexion.
- Identify your skin’s undertone — aka, the natural hues underneath the surface of your skin that affect your complexion’s overall color. Classic undertones include warm (yellow, golden, or olive), cool (pink or blue), and neutral (about the same color as your skin). Determining your undertone can help ensure your makeup blends naturally with the surface of your skin, and this can be done with a few tricks: Think about what kind of jewelry looks good on you (gold looks best on warm complexions, silver on cool complexions, and neutral complexions can wear both). You can also look at the color of your veins (those with warm undertones have greenish veins, while those with cool undertones usually have purple veins; people with neutral undertones may have almost colorless veins). To help you find your perfect foundation shade match, our complexion makeup colors feature a number, as well as a letter: “W” is for warm complexions, “C” is for cool complexions, and “N” is for neutral complexions.
- Patch test a few different shades on your jawline. This area of your face can often give you the most accurate skin tone reading because it’s less likely to experience redness than other areas.
Whether you’re looking for a new tinted moisturizer, liquid concealer, makeup stick, or powder foundation, we want to help you nail your perfect shade match from the get-go. If you’re already a fan of one of our Bio complexion products and are looking to try the whole collection, it’s important to note that your go-to shade may not be the same across all formulas in the collection. (For instance, if you wear a 2W in our Bio Tint Tinted Moisturizer, your shade match for our Bio Stick Foundation may be different).
For an easy way to determine your match, refer to our handy shade finder, which compares all four of our Bio complexion products and their respective color ranges.
Our plant-powered Bio complexion makeup features four skin-loving products—a tinted moisturizer, foundation stick, liquid concealer, and pressed powder foundation—that are designed to be layered and used together in a certain order for a nourished, glowing complexion. Here’s your four-step routine for applying our Bio complexion products in order for a look that lasts:
Step 1: Apply Bio Tint SPF 30 Tinted Moisturizer to moisturize your skin while delivering sheer coverage and sun protection.
Step 2: Layer on Bio Stick Foundation using a foundation brush to build coverage where you want it. You can also use multiple shades to highlight, contour, and create dimension.
Step 3: Using a concealer brush, lightly dab Bio Correct Concealer under your eyes and on other areas that need extra coverage, like blemishes, dark spots, and red areas.
Step 4: Buff the Bio Powder Foundation using a kabuki brush to blur, soften,
